Katherine Maestas, President & CEO

Katherine has been involved in the field of politics for over 15 years. She has focused her career on mastering numerous skills in the field.  She has worked as a lobbyist, legislative advocate, political consultant, campaign manager, legislative aide at the state capitol, political fundraiser, legislative secretary, and most proudly – a very active volunteer.

Katherine ran in 2002 for State Assembly District 10.  Her race was in the Top 7 races targeted by the Democratic Party that year.  Currently, her active involvement includes holding an elected position with the Sacramento County Democratic Party Central Committee.  She currently holds an appointment with the Sacramento County Policy Planning Commission, where she has been a Commissioner for the past 6 years and chaired that body for 3 years of her term.  She is also on the Board of Directors of the California Latino Capitol Association and the California Elected Women's Association (Sacramento Chapter).  She is on the Legislative Committees of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the California Nations Indian Gaming Association.

Katherine put herself through college by working-full time while attending classes full-time.  She has an Associates Degree from American River College, a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from California State University, Hayward, and continued to pursue her Executive Master's in Public Administration from Golden Gate University.

 
 

Albert Rivas, Vice President

Albert is the Vice President of Maestas Strategic Consulting, Inc. and provides expertise in the areas of education and child services for our clients.

Albert was born and raised in Sunnyvale, CA and has lived in Sacramento for over ten years.  Albert's education experience includes serving as a full time second-grade teacher and as an after school program instructor.  In 2005, he founded Capitol Consulting, a marketing and communications firm with an emphasis on education issues and political campaign management.  He has previously worked as a consultant for the Regional Office of Homeland Security, Sacramento County Sheriffs Department, Sacramento Police Department, local Fire Departments, as well as non-profits, state, and federal emergency response agencies, and volunteer management agencies.

In 2005, Albert was appointed as a Commissioner with First 5 Sacramento. During his involvement, Albert has worked with the Financial Planning Committee and Financial Workgroup Committee where he helped plan a $60 million budget.  His volunteerism includes mentoring at-risk youth, volunteering with the Sacramento Ballet and volunteering in television, movie, and radio broadcasts.  He has also been a featured Chalk-it-up artist for the last eight years. 

Albert is a graduate from the University of California, Davis, 2003 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science and minor in Education.  He is also a UC Davis, Master's of Education – BCLAD Multiple Subject Credential graduate 2008.

 
 

Dehra Di`Fiore-Moles, Legislative Assistant

Dehra joined Maestas Strategic Consulting in 2006.  Her duties include attending political meetings and events, tracking bills, analyzing legislation, research, and contributing in the overall mission of the office.

 

Community work has spurred Dehra's interest in working on immigrant rights and with migrant workers.  She has interned with the Inter Tribal Council of California and worked as a grassroots organizer.  Fluent in Spanish, Dehra has also volunteered in citizenship classes, bi-lingual classrooms and is a certified facilitator of the Familias Fuertes (Strengthening Families) family advocacy program.

 

Born in Auburn and raised in Sacramento, Dehra was a student at Christian Brothers High School and went on to American River College.  She left Sacramento to live and work in Guatemala, and will soon be graduating from Sac State with a degree in Comparative Ethnic Studies, with an emphasis in Chicano Studies.

 
 

Derek Tripp, Website Administrator

Derek helps maintain and update our website. He first worked with Katherine on a city council campaign and has been helping us out since.

Derek graduated from UC Davis in 2006 with his Bachelor's in English and Political Science.  While at Davis, he worked in the UCDC Program, interning with the National Gay and Lesbian Taskforce in Washington, D.C.
